1. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women
     a. Women are 100 times more likely to develop breast cancer than men
2. But Men can develop breast cancer also
3. Mammography is the most reliable way to detect breast cancer
     a. 35% of breast cancers are first detected by mammography
4. Breast self-exams really can help
     a. 25% of breast cancers are first detected through a breast exam
     b. 40% through a combination of exam and mammography

5. If it’s caught very early, breast cancer has more than a 90% survival rate
6. Breast cancer will spread to the lymph nodes underneath your arm
     a. If you can detect whether or not the cancer spread to these, it will help you know how well you will do after surgery and how aggressive your therapy needs to be
7. Fish oil may help you reduce your risk
     a. omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil help combat breast cancer
     b. foods rich in omega-3s, such as salmon, halibut, sardines, flaxseeds and nuts
8. Breastfeeding can reduce the risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer
     a. by affecting levels of estrogen in a woman’s body

9. Genetics play a big role in developing breast cancer
      a. If your mother, grandmother developed breast cancer at age 50 or earlier, you may carry the gene mutation BRCA1 or BRCA2, which can place your lifetime risk of breast cancer at 60 percent
10. Women who are obese are 1.5 times as likely to develop breast cancer
     a. The reason is that fat tissue can produce estrogen
     b.  Too much of it raises your estrogen levels, thus increasing your risk of cancer
