Most cases of oral herpes come from the herpes simplex virus 1.  Most cases of genital herpes come from the herpes simplex virus 2. 

A few symptoms of genital herpes are itching or burning in the genital area, sores in the genital region, painful urination, fever, and an area of redness.

A few symptoms of oral herpes are sores or blisters around the mouth surrounded by inflamed skin, tingling or soreness around mouth, and sores or blisters on chin, nostrils or fingers. 

Genital herpes is spread by sexual contact.  Even using condoms cannot protect you from herpes because condoms may not cover all of the infected area.  A person who is not having an outbreak can still spread herpes to their partner. 

If your eye becomes infected with herpes, it can cause blindness.  This is actually one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. 

Herpes can lead to stress, due to the negative stigma associated with it.  Stress can then lead to an outbreak. 

If a mother has genital herpes, it can lead to serious fatal infections in her child.

Herpes outbreaks can be managed well with healthy eating, medication and stress management.

Some things that can trigger herpes outbreaks are stress, a suppressed immune system and weather exposure.

The only way to completely protect yourself from genital herpes is abstinence.
