Allie’s Tip: Family Meals

Family meals are very important to both mom and dad and your children (even if they tell you they hate it). I grew up with a younger sister and we always hated to have to sit down at the dinner table, questions were throw around like “Why can’t we watch TV and eat? Why can’t we eat in our room? Or I am not hungry at all”.

 I am so grateful to my mother for making us dinner every night. She was adamant about eating meals as a family even if it was just the 3 of us without dad. She did a number of things right but one of my favorite had to have been always serving a plate of veggies and dip before dinner. We loved celery, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, broccoli and cauliflower with ranch dip! What a great idea! Fill up on yummy and healthy veggies then have a normal portion dinner with your protein, starch and maybe a little dessert!

This is my first suggestion to parents; Introduce interesting foods at an early age. Use ranch dip (a minimal amount) as an incentive. Always eat as a family when you can and although you might hear grumbles and moans about it, they will thank you for it later!
